Sen. Elizabeth Warren: suspend the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade during the next Democratic trifecta
Alexander Bolton at The Hill:
Progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) announced Wednesday that there are currently enough votes in the Senate to suspend the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade and abortion rights if Democrats win control of the House and keep the Senate and White House. âWe will suspend the filibuster. We have the votes for that on Roe v. Wade,â Warren said on ABCâs âThe View.â
She said if Democrats control the White House and both chambers of Congress in 2025, âthe first vote Democrats will take in the Senate, the first substantive vote, will be to make Roe v. Wade law of the land again in America.â The Massachusetts Democrat said her party would only need âskinnyâ majorities in the House and Senate to override the Supreme Courtâs 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Womenâs Health Organization, which overturned the national right to an abortion established by Roe v. Wade in 1973. âWe can make Roe v. Wade law of the land if we have, and I have to be clear, weâve got to have a majority in the House â skinny majority. We can take a really skinny majority in the Senate, Iâll take fifty. And a Democrat in the White House. We have those three things we will suspend the filibuster,â she said.
Speaking on ABCâs The View Wednesday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) supports the idea of suspending the filibuster to pass a Codify Roe bill should the Dems get a trifecta.

I think people forget something very important about the âif it werenât for the baby comment.â While on its face it is genius bc he knows and understands that there is a penetrating rhetoric and belief that âbabiesâ (this is an important distinction bc children are murdered for sport in thg universe) are to be protected. But where the REAL genius is, is when he said they were married in secret. If they werenât married, sheâs just a slut who had unprotected sex with a man who she wasnât married to. Peeta made sure that there would be no morality judgement against them consummating their marriage, rather than them just having sex as dating/fiancees. She knows how the Capitol, the rich and privileged, view womenâs bodies. They were sad that Katniss could die; they were indignant, near rebellious, that her puritanically ordained baby could die alongside her. God, Suzanne Collins is just so fucking smart. Itâs the little things.
Anyway, please make sure youâre checking your voter registration regularly and double-checking if your state has an abortion measure up on a random day of the year. Thatâs how your state houses are trying to make them fail. Use your right to vote. If the White House and Senate flip they will pass an abortion ban across all 50 states. Please try to protect your rights locally and then nationally. You can also donate to https://abortionfunds.org and the money automatically goes where itâs most necessary. Please donate to your local clinics and Planned Parenthoods too if you can.

I wonder if the people who voted for Trump in 2016 or refused to vote at all are pleased with how they showed the establishment... something.

Why do people in this show seem to not consider abortions for unwanted pregnancies? They live in Colorado
#Colorado had no laws on abortions until the Roe v Wade ruling was leaked#and after that the government quickly codified the de facto law that abortions are legal up to birth#so while most small mountain towns are generally conservative and I would expect people there to not really see abortion as an option#this is a pretty liberal small town & it seems weird that both Asta and Kate seem to have just no thought to terminate unwanted pregnancies#resident alien

Ohio isnât just a Republican controlled, it is Republican dominated. The legislature and governor passed an abortion ban.
But Democrats got an initiative to codify abortion rights constitutionally (rendering the ban moot) on the ballot in Ohio last November, and it won by 13 percentage points. The magnitude of that cannot be overstated.
It was not a simple thing. It was the work of thousands of dedicated people, first to simply get the measure on the ballot, and then campaigning, going door-to-door, making phone calls, sending postcards, having community meetings, telling deeply personal stories, to convince people of the importance of a yes vote. It cost hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars and incalculable human hours of work.
And here we are less than four months later, and Nina Turner is pretending that it never happened and doesnât matter.
This is yet another example of the American leftist movementâs bullshit purity politics serving as a black hole of ignorance and self-serving dishonesty. If it doesnât happen exactly the way they want, it doesnât count.
Nina and the rest of her cohort can join us in reality at any time.

Pro-lifers on X are wilding out with their virtue signaling about how pro-life people should not be voting for Trump.
Yes, itâs disappointing that his campaign adopted âkeep abortion up to the states,â but the reality is that the choice is between an administration that will keep it up to the states and thus give pro-lifers a fighting chance on a local level, or an administration that wants to make access to full-term abortions a federal law and rip away all progress made by the pro-life movement in the last few years. Denying a vote for the former ensures leverage for the latter. Anyone who is willing to actively or passively let Kamala win the election over some personal hang up about wanting a federal abortion ban that is literally not feasible right now cares more about personally feeling warm and fuzzy inside than they do about actually trying to make progress for the pro-life cause.
#yâall are so annoying#see yâall when Roe gets codified into law and your comfy pro-life states all start pushing fullterm abortions#at least you can sit back and pat yourself on the back for not voting for oRaNgE mAn

You know typically in posts that put the lives of USian citizens above the lives of Palestinians yâall at least pay lip service to the people youâre willing to let Kamala genocide because youâre shaking in your boots about Project 2025. Interesting strategy here to instead completely ignore all of Kamalaâs Bush-esque policy promises and act like itâs so #girlboss to vote in the self-described Top Cop and thereâs zero nuance whatsoever. What exactly does Kamala offer Palestinian-Americans, and for that matter Arab-Americans as a whole, that they should vote for her?
due to systemic oppression, usamerican leftists don't currently have the political power to instate a leftist president. we do, however, have enough power to make one of two candidates lose the election. we could use this power to make the white supremacist lose to the black woman, or we could use it to make the black woman lose to the white supremacist. the obvious choice for leftists would be to prioritize making the white supremacist lose, but tumblr users have devised a loop hole, where they agitate primarily for making the black woman lose, but omit the detail about who she would be losing to. this makes their stance more palatable to people who correctly believe that having a white supremacist president would be the worst possible outcome.
#âtrump will be worse than kamalaâ maybe for the white tme queers espousing this bullshit. for all the people youâre wokescolding thereâs no#material difference between the two#iâm gonna be real iâm at the point where if you wouldnât be willing to deal with another four years of trump so as not to vote for a#genocide enthusiast i have a hard time respecting you as a person#ESP if youâre a white tme queer like You Will Be Fine Under Trump. trust me iâm a white tme queer yall need to stop acting like youâre the#intended victim of anything trump could cook up. which frankly itâs not as if kamalaâs gonna stop any anti-lgbt policies that get rolled ou#during her time if she wins. itâs not like biden did and she straight up said the only difference between her admin and bidens is sheâll#have republicans in her cabinet#sheâs following in the footsteps of a man who failed to deliver on campaign promises to codify roe v wade#who himself followed in the footsteps of a mother man who failed to deliver on campaign promises to codify roe v wade#democrats will use upholding your rights as a carrot on a stick to get you to vote with no intention of actually preserving said rights#because they no they can rely on people who donât even know what harm reduction is to scream vote blue no matter who and then disappear for#another four years

It is extremely disturbing how many posts I see claiming that Roe v. Wade was overturned on Biden's watch and blaming him and the Democratic Party for it. It's disturbing on a number of levels.
First, it was Trump and Bush-appointed justices who handed down the Dobbs decision. This is a flagrant example of blaming Democrats for things Republicans did, and not coincidentally is one of the the most widely felt differences between the two parties. As a result, it's usually the first example Democrats and their allies point to; this misappropriation suggests a deliberate attempt to undercut that fact.
Secondly, and related to the first point, it obfuscates who the real enemy is, and I am comfortable using word "enemy" to describe the Republican Party because of the policies they advocate and enact. The truth is that states controlled by the Republican Party were where the effects of Dobbs are most severely felt, while states controlled by the Democratic Party are passing laws to protect abortion. It is important to know which party opposes abortion and which party supports it. If the Republicans gain control of the House, Senate, and White House, they will pass a national abortion ban, as they have done at the state level in several places.
Thirdly, blaming Biden for Dobbs demonstrates a very concerning lack of understanding of how the government functions. The judiciary is its own branch of government; judges are appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate. It doesn't matter who is president when a decision is handed down, it matters who was president when the justices were appointed. People sometimes react to this by moving the goalposts and claiming the real issue was a failure by Democrats to "codify" Roe v. Wade. I am not sure what "codify" means in this context, and I'm not sure they are either. One thing it does not mean is that congress can pass a law saying "abortion is legal forever." Republicans could easily repeal such a law and it the federal government cannot necessarily prevent states from restricting abortion at the state level. Roe v. Wade was a ruling stating that the constitution guaranteed a right to privacy, which included the right to have an abortion. This prevented abortion restrictions in a way federal law cannot. That doesn't mean passing federal law protecting abortion is a bad idea, but it isn't a foolproof protection. It's fair to argue that the Democratic Party and the left of center generally were complacent about abortion. The form of this complacency was not taking the courts seriously, while the right spent fifty years openly filling the courts with anti-abortion judges.
The last thing that worries me is that this is popping up phrased almost the exact same way all over the place. I am afraid that it is not merely incompetence, but intentional misinformation, that is then repeated by the incompetent who believe it.
I know some will probably dismiss this post as being from a "vote harder" liberal Biden supporter, but whatever your feelings about Biden, the Democratic Party, or the democratic process in the U.S., you should care about the truth. The truth is that Roe v. Wade was overturned by Republican-appointed judges and abortion bans are being enacted by Republican elected officials, and Joe Biden opposes these things. You can do with that information whatever you wish, but you denying it is dishonest.
#you can't build a leftist movement on dishonesty#i might have to mute this one too but i needed to say it

And you guys really think adding the dissolution of the department of education, mass selling off of federal lands, cutting the environmental regulations we have left, Medicare cuts, national abortion bans, appointment of Alito 2 Younger This Time to the Supreme Court, broad bans on trans medical care, and so on, and so forth, are going to like... help with that?

#do you think people are going to have more time and energy to protest#also people keep saying 'codify roe'#we can't do that without a real senate majority#and a Supreme Court that won't strike it down immediately l#I am going to regret replying to this probably!! oh well
